Head to the mountains of China to study panda bears in this beautiful non-fiction field guide for kids.

You might know that pandas like to snack on bamboo, but there’s so much more to find out about this mysterious black-and-white bear! Turn the pages to discover where pandas like to spend their summers, and how cute they are as newly-born cubs.

Filled with simple science and plenty of animal facts, this book also explains how poaching and deforestation made pandas an endangered species – and what needs to be done to protect their habitats in the future.

Written by giant panda expert Vanessa Hull, and featuring stunning illustrations by Charlotte Molas, Giant Panda (Young Zoologist) is part of an exciting new series of animal books from Neon Squid aiming to inspire the next generation of biologists and conservationists.

Vanessa Hull is an assistant professor in the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation (WEC) department at UF (beginning January 2017). She received her MS and PhD in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University. Her interests include biodiversity conservation, wildlife ecology, and interdisciplinary approaches to natural resource management. Past research highlights include examination of human-wildlife interactions between giant pandas and people in southwestern China and analysis of international trends in systems integration for sustainability. Vanessa is interested in expanding on her past international work by examining biocultural approaches to conservation across China, including among ethnic minority groups living in and around protected areas. She is interested in strengthening the ties between UF and Chinese institutions and hopes that her work informs ways that interdisciplinary research can aid in understanding and managing systems of biological and cultural importance in China and around the globe.
