History of Furniture: A Global View

Mark Hinchman is an associate professor in the Design School at Taylors University, Malaysia, and a professor in the Interior Design Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He is the author of History of Furniture: A Global View and The Fairchild Dictionary of Interior Design.

Globalization affects every aspect of our lives, from what we buy to what we eat to what we study-and the study of design history is no exception. Programs in art, architecture, and interior design all face the challenge of providing students with information from around the world. History of Furniture: A Global View covers the major historical movements in furniture design (from prehistoric periods through contemporary times) and includes parts of the world that traditional history books ignore or underserve, such as Africa and China.
